Don’t Defend or be Defensive, Defenseless is Best

Ordinarily, I am not a fan of unsolicited feedback. But if you’re soliciting it, or for that matter seeking coaching or counsel, defending your current position or even worse, assuming a defensive posture isn’t going to help you.

open-mindedDefending your ideas or ways of doing something will preclude you from listening intently for the messages put forth by those you’ve chosen to help you change your current situation.

And being defensive means that you not only won’t listen to the messages, but you’ll also push away the messenger.

If you wish to grow, assume a defenseless posture. Strip off your chainmail tunic, armor and shield, be open-minded, and soak up as much as you can from the source you’ve chosen – particularly if you’re paying for it.
